I like your logo design, but I think you need to go with another color for the font. White blends in a bit too much with the brick grout. I'm also wondering if it would also work with the text being graffiti.
Here's my thoughts on your project. The focus is not the story, it's the fact that you're taking a song that you wrote and creating an animation to show it off.
In this light, I think it works perfectly to have the guy just standing out there, singing or whatever. Someone opens a window and you expect him to say shut up, but instead throws out a guitar.
Your main character picks up the guitar, strums a few notes, approves of the sound, and then starts to rock.
Glittery close up shots of the guy strumming the guitar and singing -- doesn't have to be perfect down to the exact finger positions, but it can be close. Good lipsynch, good music, and that's all you need.
You don't need an explanation of why the guy is there, what he's doing, or what's going to happen to him. You don't need to explain why the guy got a guitar thrown at him.
Animate your song, and let that be the focus, and the audience will intuitively understand that the song is supposed to be at the center of your piece.

Hey man, keep on playing that tune! I can't wait to see this project!
Your logo makes so much sense with your reference images! It feels like you're going to have a beautiful, consistent feel to this piece.
I think the buildings and the setting can tell all the story you need. There's a guy on a rooftop playing guitar. Who needs more than that?
your ideas really good. I don't know if you even need the "hey you" at the begning. Can't wait to see more of it.

Hey Steve, I like the poster! I would agree with John that the font color could be something slightly different to make it a little bit more legible.
And the reference images are fantastic, if that's any indication of the final product, this is going to be handsome.
